Crocheted Hearts
Filed Under Crafts, Crocheting | 1 Comment
Here’s a cute idea for adding a little something extra to a craft project.
These are two crocheted hearts that I found over at CraftBits. They have all the instructions listed to make the hearts using a small amount of red and pink yarn. Check the site out and give the hearts a try next time you’re looking for a little embellishment on your next project!

These pictures are just the starting of the baby quilt I’m making for the daughter of a friend. You can click on the pictures to get a bigger view of them.
This last picture, with the four blocks, I had the bottom right block out of order for the picture. But when I sewed them all together, I made sure it was turned the right way… I bordered each block with the light blue material with the dots, then had a border of it the whole way around the blocks too. Then the outside border is yellow.
Her baby’s room is done in all bright primary colors so I was really excited when I found the light blue fabric that had the dots of yellow, green, orange and dark blue in it! I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out… I’ve got it all sewn together and am working on the quilting now. I hope to get it done this weekend, then I’ll post pictures of the completed project.
I haven’t done many actual quilted items. I made a flag wall hanging that was quilted for my brother a few years ago, but most of my quilts have been rag quilts… not actually piecing things together, then quilting them.
I tend to be a bit hard on myself and have learned a lot from making this quilt. I think it is turning out great, but I’ve already got a list of things that I will do differently the next time…
Let me know what you think!
Next vacation…

I know we just returned from vacation (and had an absolutely fabulous time!), but this weekend, we were talking with friends when we went camping and they showed us their pictures from their honeymoon in Hawaii. Wow! Am I jealous!!!
I would LOVE to go to Hawaii! Of course, you need a lei if you’re going to Hawaii and I found a quick easy way to make one before you go with flowers you’ll find at your local store. . . Carnations! You simply string each flower through the center on a fairly thick thread. String them loose enough so that they green bases can be seen and you’ll use about 30 flowers in a 40″ lei. If you string them tight enough that the green bases are hidden by the next flower, you’ll need about 50 flowers for a 40″ lei.
I did some searching and actually found some very, very reasonable vacation home rentals in Maui that are gorgeous! Since we swam with dolphins while we were in Florida, the Ocean Front Dolphin Bay Home really caught my eye! The description says it’s a spectacular oceanfront home where you can experience breathtaking sunrises, cascading rainbows, and most importantly for us… dolphin and whale watching from the comfort of the Alohahouse!
*sigh* A girl can dream, can’t she???

This is a very easy key chain for anyone to make and would be great for vacation Bible School, Sunday School or a Youth Group to make.
You can click on the picture to view it in a larger image.
All you need are 9 colored beads in whatever color you would like, a key ring, alphabet beads to spell GIVEN and the #4, and cord. This project could be completed in about 15 minutes!

Boa Covered Flip Flops
Filed Under Crafts, Kids, Child Activities | 4 Comments
I have seen more young girls with these flip flops on lately! They are really cute and very easy to make in any color. I found this pair at Michaels’ with directions on how to make them. All you need are flip flops, crafting boa and a glue gun.
Start at one end and poke the end of the boa into the sole where the strap attaches. Hot glue the whole way across the strap, leaving a short tail to poke into the other side of the sole to finish.
Jillian has a pair that a friend made her that are bright red. She loves wearing them because she gets comments on how cute they are constantly!
Art out of Driftwood

This absolutely amazes me!!! A friend sent me an email with pictures of this woman’s art, so I googled it and found her website. Her actual site won’t come up, but here’s a link to a site showing her Driftwood Horses and the steps she takes to make them.
It is unbelievable how real they look! So totally life-like! I would love to see them in person. I’m sure I would take tons of pictures!
Enjoy!

Garden Apron
Filed Under Crafts, Garden, Apron | Leave a Comment
Cultivating a green thumb takes practice, patience, and a few handy accessories — like this personalized apron and glove set that I found at FamilyFun.com.
| CRAFT MATERIALS: | |
| Carpenter’s apron (available at hardware stores) | |
| Pair of gardening gloves | |
| Fabric paints and brushes | |
| Time needed: Under 1 Hour | |
1. Decorate the set with fabric paints. Brush on a garden design, such as a row of bright yellow sunflowers or a bunch of carrots. Or slice an onion and a pepper into halves, dip them in the paint and embellish the set with vegetable prints.
2. Fill the pockets with seed packets, a garden trowel, and a plastic misting bottle. Use pinch-style clothespins to clip the gloves to the front of the apron when they’re not being worn.
Tip: This gardening set makes a great gift for a relative that loves to garden.
Another quilt blog…

While looking around for quilt designs, I found another great blog that features a beautiful bird quilt that I just had to share here on my blog. Dutch Blue is a fairly new blog, but she has some gorgeous pictures of quilts and works in progress.
I started working tonight on my Scrappy Cabin quilt and got 8 squares done! I took pictures, but have to wait till my daughter uploads them for me so that I can show what they look like. I have to keep the pattern in front of me at all times because I have such a terrible memory when it comes to putting these things together! I’m sure once I do a bunch more, it will come more easily, but until then, I’ll keep the template handy *grin*.
I have to honestly say, if I could only make one craft for the rest of my life, it would have to be quilting and sewing… I just love putting things together and sewing them all up and seeing the finished project.
